A Date Done Right

My husband is amazing, and I don't tell him that enough. I don't tell you that enough either, but mostly I just don't want you to be jealous, so it's for your own good.

You might be jealous today, but you'll just have to deal...

Last week I was texting our babysitter for an unrelated thing, and Luke said, "Ask her if she's available for Saturday night, I want to take you on a date." And she was (yay!). It made my heart go a-flutter, because typically we are so last minute that we call around for babysitters the day of, or even the night of. But he was planning ahead! And all of a sudden it was our high school dating days again...

Luke just got a new bike, and I have a new bike (which is a whole other story), and he suggested a bike-riding date along the river. I said, "Sure!" (which if you don't know me, was a huge stretch, and it was even more of a stretch that I didn't debate him about it, or discuss all the dangers...)

Saturday came, he loaded the bikes in our super-awesome-way-cool minivan. He even packed a satchel with my favorite prosecco, along with very classy red plastic cups, because that's the way we roll. And off we went, down by the river, riding into the wind.

And it was fun...really fun. I'm so glad we did it. I love how Luke gets an idea and follows through with it. He's so great at starting traditions with our family.

*And I must mention, after the bike ride, Luke took me to a lovely restaurant where we immensely enjoyed a five course meal (that was a first for me) and wonderful conversation.

A date done right.

It's the Simple Things

Man, it's been a long time! Traveling takes alot out of a tired mommy! Luke and I went to Mexico a week and a half and ago and had such a relaxing, wonderful time. I could go into daily details, but I think if I just mention this: beautiful beach, hot sun, dips in the pool, no kids...you get the picture. What I will detail is one of the million ways my husband is the best (for those of you who are confused on that point). Let me explain...

Because my husband likes to treat me to fancy dinners, we went to the fanciest restaurant at the resort for our last night. It featured primarily outdoor seating, and who can resist the sound of the enormous waves during dinner? However, September isn't "off-season" for no reason...it is sooooo hot there this time of year. Needless to say, I was sweating profusely, and had oh-so-accidentally forgotten my rubberband for my toooo heavy and hot hair! I just couldn't enjoy my food, and I felt really bad about that, but the heat was making me lose my appetite. So, like any fantastically wonderful, absolutely self-less husband would, my dearest of dears hopped from his seat, ran back to the room (not very close, I might add), and fetched my cherished rubber band for me.
Seriously, it's those little things that make me remember our dating days and why I fell in love with him in the first place...and still am in love with him!

Date Night

My day was going pretty well, until I remembered that I had scheduled a babysitter for tonight...my day got 100 times better! Just the thought of spending some well-needed alone time with Luke made me all giddy! After having beloved family visiting, then vacationing to North Carolina, life is finally settling down again.

So, what do we do on a date night? We really are "foodies," which means we love trying new, local restaurants, critiquing the food, and then trying to replicate it at home. And we're good at it! In recent days we've received rave reviews for our modern "chile relleno" and also our "3 cheese queso" (recipe to follow). What will we discover tonight? I'll let you know!

Along with food, we love taking walks in the historic district, dreaming about the homes, sometimes having what I call "house envy," and then finishing it up at Central Market for cheap dessert and coffee. To get sentimental about it, we've done this last part since we were dating, in highschool.

So, what do you do on date night?
